A Treatise to the Left

Nearly 90 million Americans did not vote in the 2024 Presidential election. Many of these voters were registered democrats.

After his record-breaking filibuster speech, Senator Cory Booker voted AGAINST the joint resolution proposed by Bernie Sanders to reduce arms to Israel. Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff also voted against the resolution. An overwhelming majority of Democrats agree that we should stop arming Israel. Yet our elected officials continue to vote against their base.

The #handsoff protest on Saturday was a great reminder that we can join forces against injustice. It was so beautiful to see so many like-minded people gathered to stand against obvious acts of evil. If I’m being honest, it was disheartening to know that some of the greatest acts of evil have been committed in our name and with our funding - and yet liberals have remained silent.

I believe the fear of losing the 2024 election kept many liberals from speaking out. No one wanted to speak against the Biden administration or Harris’s plans to continue funding Israel. If you want to hear my personal story of protesting at a Harris event and the reception I received, I can share it in another post.

How can we stand against fascism in America when we support it abroad? How can we stand against injustice in the U.S., when we are complacent in war crimes committed against Palestinians?

My own congressman Eric Swalwell attended Netanyahu’s address AFTER he was convicted by the ICJ for crimes against humanity.

I know there are many issues plaguing our nation right now. I am challenging us all to look at our values and ensure that what we are fighting for adheres to those values. We will keep losing elections unless we hold our elected officials accountable and get our party to stand on the right side of history.

If the democracy we are defending stands on the side of war criminals, how can we defend it? If this democracy does not work for the majority of Americans, they will not fight for it.

Consider this my treatise to the left. We need to ask ourselves, “What do we value?” We need to ensure that the actions we are taking and the officials we are supporting uphold those values. And when they don’t, we NEED to hold them accountable.
